Self Care to Prolong your Massage Career

SUBJECT:
Massage Self Care for Upper Extremities

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
8 CEU's Hands on

This class is specifically for body-workers who use their upper extremities intensively every day and may not do any regular self care to prepare for their work or to recuperate from it. Of course, massage is not done with just the upper extremities, rather proper body mechanics involve moving from the center of the body. However, because practicing massage may cause aches and pains to rest in the hardworking shoulders, arms and hands, those areas are the focus of this Self Care class. Many massage therapists learn parts of this material throughout their training, but don’t apply that knowledge to their own bodies in an effective way. It is vital for them to know not only specific strategies to avoid injuries, but also how to incorporating self-care into a massage practice. Students will learn a variety of exercises to keep their joints mobile and their muscles strong and flexible, restorative hydrotherapy treatments such as salt glows, paraffin dips and castor oil packs, and self-treatment of trigger-points. The class concludes with information on how to design a daily or weekly regimen that incorporates self-care techniques.
